    When 77 Concert Tour?

  • Audiences are anxiously waiting for information about the possible 77 concert tour of the U2 band. It is a popular Irish rock band famous for their large scale and elaborate concerts with their popular songs. Their last major production was the Innocence + Experience Tour, where U2 performed in indoor stadiums with minimal equipment. Since then people have been speculating that a bigger and more elaborate tour could be planned for 2023 or 2024.

There are signs that U2 has been teasing that the band might be considering embarking on its first full stadium tour since the Joshua Tree Tour back in 2017. During several interviews last year, Bono hinted at the fact that the band had recorded new material in the studio. This has sparked rumors that U2 may schedule a tour in conjunction with the release of their next studio album. Songs of Experience was released in 2017 and this new album would be their first studio album with newly recorded songs.

This potential tour is being nicknamed the “77 Tour” because 2023 would be the 40th anniversary of U2’s first album Boy, which came out when the band members were still teenagers. Thus, performing under the 77 moniker, the band could mark the 40-year landmark with a comprehensive live set and nostalgic visuals. Given U2’s penchant for big productions and themes, the number 40 and other imagery associated with four decades of music could be seamlessly integrated into the fabric of the tour’s promotional material and stage/performance design.

Regarding when the 77 Tour could commence, all projections place it at either 2023 or 2024. Professional pundits expect that U2 would need to schedule the outing in sync with a new studio album that is believed to be in the pipeline. In addition, preparation of a large-scale multi-year multi-leg stadium production requires 12-18 months of preparation time. If U2 is planning to release their new tour in 2023 as part of their comeback, then the band may need to set their dates pretty definitively.

Nevertheless, certain insiders predict that Bono and the band may wait until 2024. The band members themselves have said that after more than 45 years of touring the world, they plan to spend a considerable part of 2023 resting. If they were to begin it around the start of early 2024, they would have prepared the tour properly while also ensuring that they were not tired from touring. It also provides flexibility in case their upcoming album release date is shifted in the timetable.

Whenever it does get announced, be sure the 77 Tour will be another spectacular U2 concert with visuals and all the hits. Veteran stage designer Willie Williams is sure to come up with outrageous ideas on how to incorporate production extravagance, sociopolitical commentaries, and advanced technology, which are hallmarks he has done for the band. As a result of the tour being of nostalgic nature, fans have every right to expect to hear all the classics such as “I Will Follow”, “Sunday Bloody Sunday”, “Pride (In the Name of Love)” as well as tracks from Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby and many others.

Of course with U2 one can never predict accurately when the aspirations are likely to turn into tangible tour proposals. As with any band over the years Bono and co have from time to time withdrawn from touring for quite a while during which any number of creative diversions do occur. If fans demand information regarding the 77 Tour, they are unlikely to get confirmations anytime soon. But the dedicated fan base is certainly already aware by now that any opportunity to belt out the lyrics to triumphant U2 songs in unison with thousands of like-minded others inside a stadium will assuredly be worth that wait each time that it comes around. Well, for now, we are left with speculation and anticipation!
