The critically acclaimed alternative metal band has been making music for over a decade now. Having nine studio albums since their formation in 1995, the band has been able to blend heavy riffs, clean vocals, and the use of progressive structures to appeal to audiences in the rock and metal genres. Audiences are now waiting for the band’s next concert tour.
The COVID-19 outbreak disrupted the live performances of most musicians in 2020 and early 2021. The same can be said about numerous other groups; Deftones planned to go on their tour in 2020 but had to reschedule it several times before canceling it altogether. They have not embarked on a tour since 2019 when they embarked on a mini tour of Australia and New Zealand. This long break from touring has made fans eager to witness the band perform live once more.
Now when can fans look forward to seeing Deftones perform in venues across the globe? Unfortunately, the band has provided no fixed plan yet. Lynyrd Skynyrd has been using the downtime from the pandemic to continue writing and recording their album Ohms’ follow-up. But now that the tentatively titled Phantom Bride is supposedly done, many are expecting an announcement for a tour.
Deftones are scheduled to perform at the Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park events in Germany in early June 2023, which is great news for European fans. They most likely will host some theatrical and club events during these celebrations. Still, this means supporters in other countries such as North America and Australia are waiting patiently for their chance.
Lead vocalist Chino Moreno said in an interview on March 27, 2022, that Deftones would like to tour in the autumn of 2023. He did, however, also note that there is still a long way to go and that nothing can be said to be certain just now. It is reasonable to assume that tickets for the next accessible tour will be somewhat sought after.
Most of these songs from the 2020 and 2023 albums will be expected of performed on the upcoming Deftones tour. Still, they make sure to perform several of their songs, like "My Summer (Shove It)" and "Change (In the House of Flies)." Especially, one finds it amazing how they mix their new songs with some of the most hit ones.
And Deftones always have some great bands open for them as well. They have toured with various other bands in the heavy music scene including System of a Down, Korn, and Bring Me the Horizon. As for now, there is still no signal as to who might join them on their next headline tour. However, viewers can look forward to a quite spirited supporting cast that is in tune with the band’s edginess.
It should be noted that Deftones have not specified when they will return to the road full-time, but all indications are that late 2023 is the goal. The current COVID pandemic affected many tours and left them in a state of suspended animation but now that the restrictions have been eased in most countries around the globe the timing seems to be perfect. They probably wish to perform numerous concerts in support of the Phantom Bride album as soon as it is launched officially. And you know that their fans will be eager to purchase tickets once they are released for sale.
Other participants of the band must also share the same desire as a group of devotees to get back onto the stage. This aspect of touring has been such a huge part of Deftones since their early days of making music. This has made them the best in their performances over the decades of their performances. One of the reasons that make their concerts great is the efforts they have put in to ensure that they perform. Thus, once they officially declare the following tour, it will be a powerful experience that fans will not want to avoid.
Of course with any tour announcement comes the stress of trying to be the first to get the best tickets. I am fairly certain there will be presales for fan club members and maybe other partners such as credit card companies. Plus reseller sites will always ensure that they book for several seats to resell at exorbitant rates. True fans should also ensure that they follow Deftone's social media handles and email list to be among the first to grasp the offers.
What could hinder the band from getting back on the road is that they still do not have a stable bass player yet. Original member Chi Cheng who contributed to the band for many years unfortunately died in 2013 after being in a coma due to a car accident. Since then various other substitutes have come into play. Maybe the band is waiting to put together a more polished version of their lineup before they go on another full-scale tour. Nonetheless, regardless of who occupies the bass guitar position, the fans are eager to see this gifted quartet performing again as soon as possible.
Of course, the first Deftones show after such a tragedy will not be easy, and the atmosphere in the hall is guaranteed to be very tense. Everyone, both performers and listeners, will likely take time to work out the kinks left over from the pandemic. However, once they get into their energy and perform choruses to other high-intensity songs such as ‘My Own Summer,’ the energy levels in the venues will be high. Perhaps, we will have to wait for at least several more months to get crystal clear ideas about the tours. But once Deftones affirms or dismisses a 2023 tour, followers across the globe will be glad to know the verdict. One thing is for sure though, when Deftones do finally embark on a tour again, every single show is going to be popular. This is why their fans must be ready to purchase seats as soon as the next tour is up for sale.
It has been an incredibly long time for their performances, they have not performed for the last three years now. However, all great things require time to reach perfection. And after waiting for the pandemic break, the Deftones fans can be sure that their perseverance will be paid off soon. It would be best to look forward to the official announcement by the band themselves regarding their touring schedule in the latter part of this year. One thing is certain though – when Deftones finally return to the concert stage, their shows are guaranteed to prove well worth this lengthy but necessary delay.
