    When Fiona Apple Concert Tour?

  • Fiona Apple is one of the most enigmatic and talented singer songwriters to come out in the mid 90s era of the alternative music scene. Apple, an American singer-songwriter, is famous for her passionate lyrical performances and jazz piano tunes in her five albums released over more than twenty years. However, the famously reclusive artist is also famous for going for years between album cycles, and leaving fans waiting on news of current or coming tours.

Apple’s last album was Fetch the Bolt Cutters, which was released in April 2020, and this is after having released music in 2012. It received critical appreciation and the movie gave Apple some of the best reviews she has received in her acting career. Since the release of the album which came as a shock to many, Apple has been reluctant to grant interviews and has done almost no live shows or concerts for the album. This has made fans to ask their selves if she will ever perform again or when will she grace the stage to continue with the fetch the bolt cutters tour.

Going by what Apple has done in the past, she might even elect not to go on tour for this album at all. Her final tour was an eight-date trek as a supporting act for her fourth studio album The Idler Wheel released in 2012 and completed in October, 2013. Her first two albums, Tidal and When the Pawn also did not have more extensive tours. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Apple was famous for aggressive and expressive performances, which were seen in a break in the middle of the show in 2000 that made her stop the rest of the tour. She has only toured sparingly since then, which may suggest her overall disquiet with the various expectations and stakings of live stage.

Nonetheless, it is also conceivable that after releasing an album after such a long time, Apple might be pressured into going on more extensive rounds of tour for Fetch the Bolt Cutters. Some of the other artists who have released albums after a long time have included more concerts once they are back to the studio, maybe with an understanding of the build-up of fans’ anticipation. Some artists like Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell had more or less stopped touring for several years before they embarked on successful comeback tours later in their careers. After such reviews and seeing a devoted audience waiting for her to come back, could Apple do the same?

If Apple does decide to tour, at what point could such a tour begin? Many people had high expectations in 2022 that Apple may go on tour sometime within the next year since the live music slowly came back after the pandemic. However, 2023 appears to be more achievable as a goal. It takes several months to plan and prepare for a full-scale tour, and especially if the artist has been out of the road for quite some time. If Apple is in fact planning live dates, it is probable that these would arrive in Spring or Summer 2023 at the earliest.

As to what such a tour might be, that is still anyone’s choice. Apple has always performed in midsize venues during her shorter tours, but there might be an increased need to see her live this time which may require more theaters and amphitheaters if she intends to have multiple concerts in major cities. These setlists would definitely draw heavily from Fetch the Bolt Cutters as the first tour to promote an album in ten years. But fans would also expect to get a feel of some of the songs that had been released in her previous albums in the twentyfiveplus year career. The only thing that has remained consistent in all her shows has been Apple being alone on her piano as the main prop for her performance; it is improbable she would deviate much from this format.

Of course, as with anything related to Fiona Apple, the audience has come to understand that no tour announcements are to be trusted. It is still a mere guess as to whether she will return to the highlight and when, unless an announcement is made from her side. But of course there are definitely some valid arguments for being optimistic as the year 2023 draws nearer that it is only a matter of time before the tour supporting Fetch the Bolt Cutters is finally on. For all those fans around the globe who eagerly wait for the opportunity to see Fiona Apple perform live, even the slightest hint of it is enough to keep their hope alive as they continue to ponder, “When will she tour?”
