The Head and the Heart is an American indie folk rock band originating from Seattle, Washington, formed in 2009. There is Josiah Johnson who plays vocals, guitar, and percussion, Jonathan Russell who plays vocals, guitar, and percussion, Charity Rose Thielen plays violin, guitar, and vocals, Chris Zasche – bass, Kenny Hensley – piano and keyboards and Tyler Williams – drums and percussion. Formed after being introduced through an open microphone event, the group started writing its songs and performing in various clubs in Seattle. Just within one year of their formation, The Head and the Heart launched its first album, the Head and the Heart which had the famous Down in the Valley and Rivers and Roads. The album was well received by the critics and fans soon started to appear and follow the band.
Since their debut, The Head and the Heart have released three more full-length studio albums: The albums are Let’s Be Still, released in 2013, Signs of Light, released in 2016, and Living Mirage released in 2019. They are famous for high-energy performances with catchy, danceable folk rock anthems. They have been active on the road over the last decade: multiple festival appearances, several supporting tours, and headlining tours through North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia. They have played some of their largest performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, London’s Somerset House, Lollapalooza, Newport Folk Festival, and Coachella.
After the release of The Head and The Heart, you can witness the band’s performance in the North American tour planned for 2022. The title of the tour, Every Shade of Blue, derives from a track on the band’s current record, Living Mirage. It will include more than 30 performances starting in September in George, Washington, and ending in November with two performances at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood, California. In addition to the band’s regular 5 members, musicians who have worked with The Head and the Heart in the past during other shows and albums will be on stage to play the entire spectrum of the band’s songs as performed in their current setlist from their past four records.
The first half of the tour occurs in Washington and Oregon, with dates in Spokane, Boise, and Bend. They will then move to California with concerts in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and Berkeley. The tour goes on to other cities in the western and Midwest regions of the United States. This performance tour is to take the group through Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago, St Louis, and Memphis on the western side before moving to Nashville, Atlanta, Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston in the east.
In each city, the band plans to perform familiar older hits – Lost in My Mind, Another Story, and All We Ever Knew, and songs from Living Mirage and Signs of Light. Since they have accumulated such a vast collection of songs in the last 13 years, each performance means a different set list and tracks that dedicated fans wish to hear in person. Both the Head and the Heart have stated in interviews that they are looking forward to playing some of the smaller theatres on this tour and interacting closely with the fans.
The audience at the tour can look forward to catchy tunes, fast-paced Folk songs with drums as well as the distinctive pop harmonies of the band. Charity Rose Theilen, the violinist, will no doubt make audiences drop their jaws with powerful, stomping violin tunes while walking around the stage.
