Depeche Mode Touring: When Will the Iconic Band Be on the Road Again?
Depeche Mode Ticket has been one of the most popular electronic and alt-rock bands today since they started making music in the early 1980s. As a band with dark lyrics, synthesizers, and emotional stage presence, Depeche Mode has obtained not only fans from all around the world but also sold more than 100 million albums. Their touring history also looks equally impressive as the band has always been keen on going on massive world tours which are usually every four years. So, when can fans hope to see Depeche Mode announce another tour?
More recently, Depeche Mode concluded their Global Spirit Tour for the album Spirit in July after performing for over 3 million fans in Europe and North America. It was their most exhaustive tour ever, which lasted for over a year and encompassed 130 performances. As expected, the band has not been active since and has not put out any new material or signaled that they might be planning to tour in the future.
However, analyzing their past touring cycles offers some insight as to when they may embark on another tour again. Following the massive 1993 Devotional Tour, they went on a brief hiatus of approximately three years before introducing the Ultra Parties in 1996. The next major tour, Touring the Angel, took place in 2005, four years after the 2001 Exciter Tour. After the 2009 Tour of the Universe, they again waited for four years before beginning the Delta Machine Tour in 2013.
Based on this pattern, the fans could anticipate that Depeche Mode might go on tour sometime between 2022-2023. This timing is also consistent with the usual four-year gap between studio albums that the group produced. Based on this pattern, one would expect that Depeche Mode should have new music out by now and a world tour to go along with it.
Of course, there is no official statement from the band on any of these matters. One of the founding members Martin Gore stated in one interview after the Global Spirit Tour that they wanted to have a longer break than before given the fact that they had been performing intensely for more than a year consecutively. It remains to be seen if that extended downtime will extend their timeline or if other elements such as side projects will be an issue. Dave Gahan, the singer of the band, signed a new solo record deal in 2021, so it can be assumed that he probably wants to continue recording his solo material soon.
However, as soon as the creative juices have been replenished, fans can be sure that Depeche Mode could take to the concert trail at the earliest. Touring has been one of the most essential factors that have contributed to the group’s existence and operation in the past forty years. Their tours always attract large crowds, their shows are all very popular and they receive rave reviews for their performances. Even though the Global Spirit Tour recently ended the fans are eagerly waiting for the band to unveil the next set of concert dates.
Some factors may affect the time when the tour announcement will be out, such as the position with Gahan and Gore’s solo careers, if the band starts writing new material, and the conditions of the live music market as it gradually opens up more after COVID-19. Normally, Depeche Mode would have toured in 2022, but due to COVID-19, they had to take more time off. Now the earliest possible time they can go back is this 2023 or 2024 seems more reasonable.
However, fans can see the members of Depeche Mode performing live in other capacities, such as Gore’s DJ sets. Although he is an inductee of the Songwriter Hall of Fame, the man uses Depeche Mode songs in his performances at events all over Europe. Gahan also has a residency in the Four Seasons in New York if he is not in the studio recording new tunes or working on some other media project.
But of course, there is nothing like watching Vince Clarke standing on stage with his band consisting of Gore, Gahan, and Andy Fletcher. Once there is creative and logistical alignment after the pandemic, followers should expect an official tour announcement, which would mark Depeche Mode’s return. Considering that they’ve been performing since the late seventies, the next era of their touring should get underway sooner rather than later. Given that all the members of the band are expected to turn 60 soon, fans are hoping that the next band tour will not be their last even if it may be several more years before one is undertaken. But for now, avid fans will be watching and waiting with their fingers crossed that 2023 will be the year that Depeche Mode returns to the concert circuit, worldwide.
