When Is Journey Touring?
Journey Tickets will begin a 20-date North American tour in February 2023 with special guests TOTO, a rock band that had popular hits in the 1970s and 1980s, including “Don’t Stop Believin’,” “Anyway You Want It,” and “Wheel in the Sky.”. For longtime fans of Journey, this is exciting news because it means that they will be able to see Arnel Pineda and the rest of the current lineup perform some of the band’s classic arena rock hits on stages near them.
Journey performed in selected cities in 2022, especially those in the eastern part of the United States, but their 2023 tour plans are broader. Since the beginning of its tour in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in late February, Journey is set to traverse the United States and Canada up to early August. The over two dozen that are currently scheduled for North America make this Journey’s most extensive tour since their 2017-2018 run with Asia and another Journeyman rock band, Pretenders.
We have yet to see if Journey will perform even more shows in other cities as the year 2023 progresses. However, from their tour site and from other sites that feature venues, we are sure that Journey is scheduled to perform in New York, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Seattle, San Francisco, and several other cities. The Steve Miller Band will be opening for them throughout the tour. People can probably assume that Neal Schon and the rest of Journey will perform songs from each of their nineteen studio records at every concert.
However, Schon has been with Journey since the early 1970s and is the only original member of the band, although the rest of the lineup saw a decent amount of change. Perhaps one of the most significant changes in the band has been the current lead singer, Arnel Pineda. The Filipino vocal dynamo was discovered by Schon through YouTube in 2007, allowing the group to faithfully replicate their powerful hard rock songs in concerts. He brings in Schon as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist, Jonathan Cain as the keyboardist, Travis Thibodaux as the bass guitarist, and Deen Castronovo as the drummer.
That lineup should excite Journey fans, who wondered if the band would embark on as much touring again after the departures of bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith in 2020 following a missile. Journey also did not struggle when the COVID-19 pandemic hit because they had to postpone many dates from their 2020 tour. However, they came back in 2021-2022 to mark their 50th year as a band. In 2023, with Arnel Pineda still as the band’s reliable voice, fans of Journey, both old and new, can see them perform live in various venues all across North America.
Almost all remaining tickets for the new dates announced for 2023 are seemingly available on Journey’s official site or through other affiliated agents. The approximate ticket prices can vary from forty dollars for the grassy area to several hundred dollars for the best floor spots in front of the stage. Given that Journey continues to be one of the most sought-after bands and that their recent live shows were exceptionally good, the concerts in the rest of 2023 could sell out faster in some cities. Thus, fans should not have to wait long for tickets to be made available to them.
As previously depicted, Journey’s popularity could have been at its pinnacle in regards to album and single sales during the 1970s and 1980s. Nevertheless, the last few tours have also received support from a new generation of fans who are now going through the discography of this band, which gave us catchy soft rock ballads and powerful, guitar-driven songs for sports stadiums. Journey has also seen their pop culture sparks bring their material again into the new generations, for instance, the shenanigans of “Don’t Stop Believin’” in the TV show Glee and being the anthem for the Chicago White Sox year 2005.
In between those occasional doses of newfound glory and their non-stop touring in the past fifteen years, Journey has become a classic rock band for a new generation. The thought of being able to perform ‘Open Arms’ or ‘Faithfully’ and have thousands of fans young and old sing it back to them is what brings the band back out for big tours like this 2023 one. Of course, this is not counting the so-called Journey purists from the seventies and eighties getting another crack at those ages with Journey in concert.
And so when Journey steps foot on the stage in Allentown on February 4th to begin their 2023 concert tour, they will undoubtedly feel like a band starting a new chapter. This latest journey comes on the heels of a momentous fiftieth wedding anniversary the couple enjoyed in 2022. However, with the same zeal and dedication as they started in 1973, Journey is back on tour to continue the beautiful melodies.
This fact leads to one more important question: what will become of Journey after 2023? Viewers would probably be able to look forward to more anniversary specials and exhaustive tours in the future as Schon and Cain of Journey draw nearer to their seventies. But how this legendary band has evolved and has remained to deliver powerful concerts with Arnel Pineda on the front line, Journey may well persist with their anthemic music all the way to the 2020s and beyond.
