    When Is U2 Touring?

  • U2 Tickets is quite arguably one of the greatest rock bands in history. The band was founded in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland; its members are Bono (vocals), The Edge (guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals), Adam Clayton (bass guitar), and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums and percussion). For more than four decades, the quartet has released 14 studio albums and toured globally, performing for millions of devoted audiences. Thus, the question arises: when will fans have another opportunity to watch U2 perform live?

Up to this date, there is no information regarding U2 having a new tour or any upcoming concerts. The last concert, called The Joshua Tree Tour 2019, was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the eponymous 1987 studio album. It started in November 2018 and ended in December 2019, covering several legs with New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and India before reaching Europe. The last concert of the tour was held on December 15, 2019 in Mumbai, India.

So, it has now been over two years since U2 was last on the road or on the move in any form. There are so many fans of this band that many are waiting to hear when they will be coming around for their next tour and when they will be able to catch another glimpse of Bono and company. However, in recent interviews, some members of U2 have implied that they will be a little inactive before preparing for the release of new albums and concerts.

Later in June 2020, the guitarist The Edge said that the pandemic had disrupted the band’s plans. They planned to come up with a new album, promote it, and go on a world tour in 2021, but the situation in the world was not so favorable. We will likely have to wait for at least another year or two for their next album, as it is rumored to be called Songs of Ascent. And a supporting tour would come sometime after the album has been released to the public.

The Joshua Tree 2019 Tour proved to be a demanding tour for Bono’s vocal cords as well. He recently had some problems with his vocal cords during some of the performances, and he even required surgery to fix it. So Bono likely needs even more time to rest his vocals before singing U2 hits on a long global tour. Unfortunately, that also means that fans cannot expect any U2 tour information or concert dates in the very least for the year 2023.

However, things can always turn around or progress quicker if the band moves faster in writing and recording the subsequent album to 2017’s Songs of Experience. However, given the insiders’ reports from the band members themselves, the chances of their returning to the road will not happen before 2024.

But the fans should take some consolation in the fact that U2 is indeed in the process of recording more music. Some of the band members, especially Bono and The Edge, have been collaborating with producer Bob Ezrin; hence, the band has not lost sight of the next album. In an interview conducted in October 2022, Larry Mullen Jr. confirmed that a reunion with his fellow band members is likely to happen early in 2023 to continue with the release of the record. Thus, it is still churning through the gears, though not quite at full speed.

It is quite reasonable that a band that is about to celebrate its fifth anniversary does not hurry to release new songs or go on tour before they are ready. U2 is especially perfectionistic and wants to give out their best shot possible. They also function as a democratic unit, meaning all four members have to agree to the direction to be taken. That being the case, U2 has earned the right to work as slowly as they possibly can, given their decorated career.

However, U2 understands that they are a very popular concert attraction.

When it comes to live rock performances, there is nothing quite like the fervor and scope of a U2 concert, especially when it happens around the world. As evidenced by the Joshua Tree Tour 2019 grossing over $396 million, U2 is commercially successful. So once ready, anticipate that U2 will hit back hard with numerous tour dates that will entertain fans who have eagerly waited for the band to get back on the road.

When that day comes, there will be instant sellouts on everything, as the farthest dreams become reachable in a blink of an eye. However, one should not expect it to occur before 2024. For a new album, the band is likely to release it first, followed by a few months of preparations for the tour, including hiring crews, promoting the event, and determining the route. Launching a worldwide tour of U2 requires considerable advance preparation.

Of course, if U2 decides to release an impromptu mini-tour or some dates before the album and tour cycle, everything goes to the wind! While the other band stalwarts are conscious of the cyclical nature of their album releases, U2, on the other hand, seems to be following this standard cycle this time.

So wait for a couple more years, U2 fans. One of Ireland’s biggest musical treasures will be touring soon, so get ready to see him in a city nearby. Listening to Bono’s voice open a classic song like ‘Where the Streets Have No Name,’ ‘Pride (In the Name of Love),’ or ‘With or Without You,’ for the first time in years will have been worth the wait. This simply means that U2 is assured to return even more powerful than before; thus, get ready for your tickets the next time the band goes on tour.
