Who Is On Tour With Rod Stewart?

  • Currently, Rod Stewart is touring through North America and Europe in 2023. On his latest outing, Stewart is 77 years old and is as active as ever, filling up venues. Backing Stewart on stage is a great cast of musicians who have been part of the rock star’s band for touring and recording.

Stewart's Longtime Bandmates The foundation of each live performance by Stewart is his band. Jim Cregan who plays the guitar, is a professional session musician and has been with Stewart for over 40 years. Cregan is credited for his pleasant piano and keyboards skills and the compositions that can be heard in Stewart’s albums. On bass, we have Kevin Savigar, who is also a musician and songwriter on several of Stewart’s recent productions. As for Savigar, he provides the rhythm and support on bass but often changes to the key on the keyboards during the performance.

On drums, there is Steve Ferrone, who is most famous for being the drummer of the Average White Band. He has been providing funky grooves as a drummer alongside Stewart since 1995. Jimmy Roberts is on saxophones, harmonica and also providing backing vocals. They say that Roberts toured with The Faces in the 70s, and now he plays his smooth sax melodies and sings backing vocals at Stewart concerts. The last member of the band is Chuck Kentis, who plays the keyboards. He has performed on several Stewart albums and plays piano or organ while performing live.

Background Vocalists There is no way one could attend a Rod Stewart show and not be thrilled by the performance of his backing vocalists. The talented women who join Stewart to form a powerful vocal harmony to Stewart’s raspy tone are J’Anna Jacoby, Dee Mayberry, and Monet Owens. Jacoby has a music career of her own, but this is her 14th year on tour with Stewart. Mayberry has the skills of going on tour with other great artist like Michael Bolton, while Owens has toured with artists such as Stevie Nicks. Combined, their harmonies complement Stewart’s voice to the tunes of “Maggie May” and “Stay With Me. ”

Special Guests It is also important to note that, apart from his own backing singers and musicians who accompany him on his tours, Stewart often invites special guests to perform with him at each venue. In a recent show, Stewart invited English singer Peter Noone, who sang Herman’s Hermits hit “I’m Into Something Good,” with Stewart. On the same tour, Stewart sang “Stay With Me” with country singer LeAnn Rimes. In one of his San Diego shows, Stewart invited his former bandmate, guitarist Albert Lee, to duel on songs such as ‘Sweet Little Rock n Roller’.

As with a number of talented musicians in a row, the Rod Stewart concert of 2023 will be a rare show that any fan will never want to miss. Stewart may be the lead singer and has been performing for more than 50 years now but he is backed by talented musicians in his band. Adding their talent and vigour with Stewart’s charm and songs makes for a great live performance that fans of all generations are witnessing in this latest tour. In his late seventies today, Rod Stewart has no intention of stopping performing for fans and his band.
