10cc to celebrate 50th anniversary with tour in 2023
To honor their half-century as musicians, legendary British art-pop band 10cc has announced intentions for a worldwide tour in 2023. Formed in Stockport, England in 1972, 10cc consisted of singers Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley, and Lol Creme along with multi-instrumentalists. Among their hit songs are "Rubber Bullets," "The Dean and I," "The Wall Street Shuffle," "I'm Not in Love," and "Art for Art's Sake; they are most remembered for their intricate vocal harmonies and ability to explore several musical styles."
Graham Gouldman and Stewart Crozier recorded and toured as 10cc well into the 1980s and early 1990s, whereas the original line-up of this band broke up in 1976 when Godley and Creme went solo. Rick Fenn, Paul Burgess, and Stuart Tosh among other musicians helped them on many occasions. Considered as one of the most experimental studio bands of the time, 10cc put out ten albums throughout their first decade of life. Their tunes mixed the pop, rock, jazz, reggae, and art pop components into something fresh and distinctive. Their songs were British in humor to some degree and included sarcasm and comedy lyrically.
Ten-cc is scheduled to start its 50th anniversary celebration in January 2023 in the United Kingdom and then travel the rest of Europe in February-March. Though it is thought that more are anticipated to be established in the next months, there are already about twenty dates known. Graham Gouldman, a regular member of the present 10cc configuration alongside Rick Fenn, guitarist and vocals, Paul Burgess, drummer, Mike Stevens, keyboards, and Iain Hornal, voice, will also be on the tour. Tony O'Hora will provide extra keyboards, guitar, and backup vocals; he has worked with the band from the early days of 10cc.
While on the tour, fans should expect to hear many of 10ccs most popular songs like I’m Not in Love, Dreadlock Holiday, Good Morning Judge, The Things We Do for Love, and Im Mandy Fly Me among others. The songs will range from the band’s early years with the first album to the 2006 reunion album, covering all of 10cc’s discography. There can be also some super-secret songs, some of those tracks which 10cc recorded a long time ago, but which usually remain unheard by the common public.
In a statement, Gouldman said We’re thrilled to be announcing this 10cc 50th anniversary tour. It is still surprising that such a band was formed 50 years ago since it all began in 1972. We have a lot of fans who have been with the band since the beginning, and they have been asking us to go back on tour, so we thought it was high time to celebrate the band's success through concerts. The current band is fantastic, and we intend to also go through the discography more and perform all the songs that people know and enjoy. It’s going to be an amazing party every night.
Besides the concerts, 10cc plans to release expanded versions of several albums, a fifty-year photo book/biography, and possibly new compilation albums. Thus, the year 2023 seems to be marked as a significant one in the celebration of 10ccs half-century birthday. Despite having released over 30 million sales of albums internationally, their style of music can still be seen as relevant to this date and the songs still get aired frequently on classic rock and oldies stations.
Although the dates of the particular tours are yet to be decided in the process to be completed in the next couple of months, it is expected that the UK and European tours will be decided shortly. From there, the vision is to have 10cc perform more shows in other parts of North America, Japan, Australia, and probably other markets. Visit the band's website and their social media accounts for the latest event schedule of gigs near you.
For the fans in the UK and Europe who wish to watch 10cc on their 50th-anniversary tour, it is most probable that the early tickets will be available before the end of the 2022 calendar year. This is because for what could be the last major world tour for what has been a dedicated multigenerational band, the demand is expected to be high. The nostalgic fans should grab this opportunity to enjoy 10cc live in 2023 performing their favorite tracks such as “I’m Not in Love”, “Dreadlock Holiday” and other hits on their 50th-anniversary tour. It will, of course, be a memorable celebrative musical occasion.
