Aurora's Concert Tour: When Will It Finally Happen?

It has been more than two years since Aurora Aksnes, or simply Aurora, has gone on tour to support her songs. The most recent large-scale global tour was the “Different Kind of Human Step 2 Tour” which occurred from the end of 2018 to mid-2019 in promotion of her second studio album “Infections of a Different Kind (Step 2). ” Since then, Aurora has been regularly releasing singles, including “A Different Kind of Human,” and an EP, “Exist For Love,” but without mentioning any full-length studio album or tour Audiences have been getting more and more restless waiting for the Norwegian singer-songwriter to get back on stages to perform her powerful, poetic pop songs live again. Thus, where does an Aurora concert tour stand in 2023 and further?

Here are a few reasons why Aurora may have taken a break from touring over the past couple of years. The first one is the immediate break occurring due to the COVID-19 pandemic that occurred across the world. Through mid-2020 and 2021, large-scale concerts and events were almost inaccessible or banned in some parts of the world, meaning that touring was almost out of the equation for most musicians. While some of them did reopen, planning an international tour entails major logistics – getting venues, accommodations, transportation, and so on, in every market. That must have been challenging because the pandemic itself was unpredictable and not easy to plan for all of those components.

Also, Aurora has discussed being diagnosed with high anxiety when it comes to performing live and being in some social situations. In previous interviews, she has said that she used to have panic attacks and anxiety before performing on stage at some point in her career. They might find it daunting to get back into the grind in preparation for a headline tour after being off the limelight for two years mostly. Aurora is famous for her honesty and creating a closeness with the audience members. If she is not ready to be exposed and comfortable on stage now, she might be waiting to start a tour.

Nonetheless, there is enough evidence to suggest that Aurora is preparing for a return to the road at some point relatively soon. Although she did not release her last album yet in 2019, she has been quite active in releasing one-off songs such as “Giving In To The Love,” “Cure For Me,” “Exist For Love,” and “A Temporary High” in the past three years. She seems to be still writing and recording new songs, even if she is not using them to create an extended piece at the moment. Once she assembles a stock of fresh material for a tour setlist, she will likely declare a concert tour.

Further, Aurora has recently started performing at concerts and shows that are held occasionally, but she did not perform in 2020. It has been over the past year she has performed outstanding singles such as “Cure For Me” and “A Temporary Life” on television shows in Norway and Germany. In the Fall, she was able to perform in only several European festivals including the Reeperbahn Festival in Germany and End of the Road in England. These rare live performances hint at the fact that Aurora could be rehearsing to get back to performing before an audience. Performing a few songs at the structured festivals and shows is probably less stressful for her to warm back up than starting a full-scale world tour right now. But it could open the doors to a proper concert tour announcement shortly.

Concerning what an actual Aurora concert tour could entail, she would most probably spend a lot of time in Europe and also visit such American cities as New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc. From recent interviews, she has expressed the strong bond as a creative haven, especially with Berlin, so stopping at the German markets does not sound so far-fetched. The same claim holds when it comes to securing dates in South America, which appears to be quite attainable. Aurora has discovered a very enthusiastic audience in Latin America and has mentioned a willingness to continue to foster that fan base by touring there. Unfortunately, she had to cancel a show in Mexico City and Brazil in September 2019 because of a production problem, so the band may have to focus on those dates.

Concerning the composition of her touring band, Aurora has been known to go on stage with the same musicians for most of her career up to this year. On the drums, we have Magnus Skylstad while the bass is by Sondre Nilsen; Fredrik Årvoll plays keyboards and Aurora also plays the piano and the guitar while she sings for the group. She appears to enjoy effective working relationships and shared creative goals with these musicians. It would not be surprising to see this lineup intact whenever the singer finally gets around to mounting another world tour. Of course, there is always an option for Aurora to make a switch and bring new people for the next series of shows. However, there have been no indications of that occurring as of yet.

Although specifics are still scarce, Aurora has seemingly publicly admitted to being aware of fans who are eagerly waiting for a new album and subsequent tour. In the recent interviews, she has been able to express that both are final goals, when the timing is right in terms of creativity. It appears that she navigates all facets of her professional life at her own deliberate and calculated pace instead of responding to outside forces regarding album releases and concert performances. However, that considered strategy does not suggest that she is unmoved or indifferent about the situation. It can be seen that Aurora still has a lot to share with the world and viewers through her unique kind of dance. When she finally feels that she is ready in every way physically, mentally, and inspirationally for all that a world concert tour involves, she will give her followers a signal. Given her continued productivity and her brief appearance at some select live events this year, that day hopefully comes sooner rather than later in 2023.
