On stage, Billy Idol and his main lead guitarist will be supported by drummer Paul Cook, bassist Stephen McGrath, and guitarist Billy Morrison. The tour will also include keyboardist Derek Sherinian and percussionist Sax Player Mel Gaynor, who has collaborated extensively with Idol in the past.
Originally the main vocalist for the British punk rock band Generation X, active in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Billy Idol launched his solo career in 1981 with the self-titled EP. Early days of the music video channel, he would soon soar to one of the most-watched MTV stars due to his punk-like attitude, peroxide-spiked hair, and distinctive sneer.
With his vocal approach and perspective on life, Idol cleared the path for blending punk rock with pop music and helped rock music evolve for many upcoming rock stars. Among his most often used LPs are "Rebel Yell" (1983), "Whiplash Smile" (1986), "Charmed Life" (1990), and "Kings & Queens of the Underground" (2014).
The 2023 tour is the series of events Idol performed last fall around the United States. His last appropriate concert tour was co-headlining one with Joan Jett in 2018. The songs recorded with Jett were from the shows for Idol’s 2020 EP called ‘The Roadside’.
In 2021, Idol released a four-track EP called ‘The Cage’ which was also produced by Butch Walker with the lead single being ‘Bitter Taste’. The track managed to peak at #1 on the Billboard Rock Digital Song Sales chart which was Idol’s first #1 on the chart.
The title and lyrical content of the EP were dictated by the COVID-19 restrictions that stopped Idol from touring as is customary for him. Out of loneliness and rage, he transformed these into anthemic tunes ideal for blasting.
Idol guitarist for years now, Steve Stevens recently concluded the tour by playing the music of Eddie Van Halen featured Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt and Billy Sheehan of David Lee Roth Band. Stevens also recently featured in the song ‘My Reverie,’ from pop artist Kim Petras's most recent record.
Stevens was recently interviewed by antiMusic and had this to say about getting back on the road with Idol “We are looking forward to this tour next year. We did not get to tour much in support of the latest EP so we are stoked to be able to incorporate some of those tracks into the set along with all of the hits that one would expect. ”
”As everyone knows this last year has been rough for live music so we’re just looking forward to just getting out there and playing for some real rock fans again. That feeling never gets old,” Stevens said.
Tickets to all 2023 dates, including the new shows announced, are available from Friday, December, 9 at 10 AM local time in each city. Special artist fan club and VIP presales will occur before the day of on sale of the tickets.
Considering his legendary status and still unparalleled stage presence, 2023 is slated to be another successful touring year for the ever sprightly Mr. Billy Idol who continues to perform into his almost fifth decade on the road. Just wait and watch him perform live when he invades your city next year with the rebel yell, without a doubt.
