Cheap Trick is a rock band that is from America and was formed in 1974 in Rockford Illinois. The band is formed by Robin Zander on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Rick Nielsen on lead guitar and backing vocals, Tom Petersson on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Daxx Nielsen on drums and percussion. Cheap Trick has been consistent in touring and recording, releasing more than one studio album in their several years of operation. They have popularized songs such as “I Want You to Want Me,” ‘Surrender,’ and ‘The Flame.
As for Cheap Trick concert tours, the band is still actively touring to this date, although Cheap Trick was formed more than 45 years ago. In a way Cheap Trick appears to tour every year, performing across the United States and often touring Europe and Japan. The band performs at outdoor venues such as theaters and indoor venues like arenas and casinos alongside performances at festivals. They perform songs from their collection which comprises 20 studio albums to date. They perform all the popular songs and the ones that true Cheap Trick enthusiasts would want to hear.
The Cheap Trick toured frequently in the year 2019. In February, they performed the West Coast tour while the Sunshine Rock tour was held between April and July. That trek reached amphitheaters and theaters of over thirty cities in the United States. They performed at venues such as Iowa State Fair during festivals in the summer. The band toured through Japan and Europe in the Fall before returning to the US to do more shows in November and December of 2019.
As of the writing of this article, Cheap Trick has shows planned through October of 2020 with their first date being February. This tour commences in Florida at the beginning of February. This spring and summer, they are to have a tour of America performing in Illinois, Oklahoma, California, Washington, Oregon, and many other states. Some of the major performances include the Epicenter Festival in North Carolina and Summerfest in Wisconsin. Yet another Japanese tour is planned for April. As mentioned earlier, more dates may be added in the future depending on various circumstances.
Cheap Trick also frequently sets up residency shows where the band will play several shows at the same venue within a week or across several weeks. Recent residencies were at the Pearl Concert Theater in Las Vegas and the Music Box in California. The band can also plan for and publicize other residency concerts as the year progresses.
Unlike most old-school bands, Cheap Trick did not lose steam as the years went by and instead continued to pump out records. This has always been a road warrior band since their early days of touring in the 1970s. Current members Robin, Rick, and Tom are still full of zeal to perform three-hour sets with vigorous intensity for audiences every night. I think the band still sounds very good and is still able to deliver the power pop that helped them become popular. That is why to this day, people of all ages will come out in large numbers anytime Cheap Trick is scheduled to perform.
The current global pandemic health crisis has seen all concert touring artists unable to perform on the road for an unknown amount of time due to the banning of large gatherings. Cheap Trick had bookings up through 2020 and many of those shows were canceled when the social distancing measures were implemented in March. Many events have either been postponed to the later part of 2020 or early 2021. However, all rescheduled dates are possible as the live music industry continues to wait for further clarification on when concerts can start again.
However, Cheap Trick is likely going to embark on a great many more full-scale concert tours as soon as it’s permissible. The band has too much history and is loved by too many people to not take to the open road that they have traveled many times before. Robin, Rick, Tom, and Daxx are a young energetic band of musicians who have so much music in them; they could perform for many years and still feel like they are just starting.
Thus, though Cheap Trick’s concert tour in 2020 was rather abruptly stopped, the fans should anticipate the band to come back even stronger during the next music season. Whether that exact timeframe remains uncertain during this unprecedented situation the whole world is in. But never underestimate these 70s rock and roll warriors! Cheap Trick will be out there performing and giving more and more to generations of fans every time it is safe to do so. They will be rocking concert halls, clubs, theaters, and festivals as they have for the past 45+ years.
