Foals is an indie rock band from Oxford, England. The members are Yannis Philippakis, Jack Bevan, Jimmy Smith, Edwin Congreave, and Jeremy Pritchard. This British band was established in 2005 and has released five studio albums, the latest of which, Life is Yours, was released in June 2022.
Foals have produced numerous successful albums over the years, toured globally, and received rave reviews, but they have only recently embarked on a major headline tour in North America. Well, the Foals are currently performing their live shows, and with the release of the latest album and the band gaining popularity worldwide, many people are curious and asking when the next Foals tour in North America will be. Are they going to be touring in my city?
Looking at the band’s recent statements, interviews, and the shows they have planned for the future, it would not be surprising if Foals went for a full headlining North American tour any time soon, preferably in 2023. They were last here in North America in 2019 thanks to the Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost tour. That particular tour took them through the major cities in Canada and the United States but it has left many of the American and Canadian fans eagerly waiting for the band to come back again.
While interviewing a radio station this month to plug their Life Is Yours album, lead singer Yannis Philippakis disclosed that the band is planning to tour in the North American region in the year 2023. He said after this they are back to Europe for the festivals still booked for this year and later booking a tour of more theaters across Canada and the USA as they headline. Yannis said that although they enjoy performing for tens of thousands of people during massive summer festivals, they prefer small and wild theatrical performances in which everyone is engaged closer to the artist.
Thus, though Foals does not appear to have any confirmed North American tour dates at present, it can be assumed based on what Yannis has said and plans to do that such a tour will be arranged in 2023. Regarding which cities they will perform in – that has not been confirmed either but, one could guess that they will try to perform in most of the big cities as they did back in 2019. That would likely consist of cities such as Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, to name a few. Their last North American tour also included some stopovers in Mexico City and Costa Rica, so the Central American dates could be on the list again too.
However, if Foals were to embark on a tour in 2023 across the North American region, the question that would arise would be what is expected from their live performances. With Foals known for constructing their reputation over the years with high energy and enthralling performances on stage and considering the fan accounts of their recent performances at European music festivals featuring new material from the Life Is Yours album, it appears a Foals concert on this side of the Atlantic would be a non-stop display of liveliness.
If their normal concert modus operandi stays the same, but the setlist is always unknown and changes based on whatever kind of mood Yannis is in that evening, one might be able to guess that hearing songs such as Mountain at My Gates, Inhaler, My Number, Snake Oil, 2 am, Spanish Sahara, Wake Me Up, and Black Bull might happen in between new songs like Wake Me Up, 2001, 2 Yannis also frequently incorporates such odd covers as well and the question of which one may appear in the setlist for some 2023 concert is anybody’s guess.
As for specific songs, it is anyone’s guess which ones the musicians will perform during a forthcoming 2023 North American tour; however, fans will be starved of the band members feeding voraciously off their energy. Patrons should arrive prepared to move around, dance, or sweat rather liberally, especially given how frontman Yannis has been caught dancing energetically on stage and how Jimmy Smith aggressively head bangs to every build-up of each song.
Besides the raucous but intimate possible small theater setup that was hinted at, what else can the concertgoers expect from Foals’ 2023 North American show based on their past touring experiences in the continent? In addition to making sure one comes equipped with protective ear plugs for closer front-row eardrum safety due to the great sound warfare about to take place, one may also wish to refresh one’s memory of Greek mythology. Lead singer Yannis, an eccentric character at best, has been also given to dropping historical and science information, and other matters of existence between songs, clad in Zeus-like capes and customary skinny jeans, of course.
So while Foals have not officially announced specific dates or routes yet they have mentioned in interviews for their next expected 2023 North American tour in support of the new album Life Is Yours fans can take comfort in the fact that this indeed seems to be the case. Fans eager to witness the band at its most charismatic and passionate delivering high-octane punk rock performances interspersed with complex musicianship too would be wise to follow Foals’ social media pages in the coming months in anticipation of their tour dates. New announcements may come soon concerning the possibility next year of seeing one of Britain’s most exciting young indie rock bands perform great sports stadium releases such as Wake Me Up down to passionate theater pleasures from coast to coast in the USA and Canada.
