Let’s take a closer look at the options.
Jodeci was an R&B music group that dominated the airwaves in the early 1990s due to their music and looks. The songs such as “Forever My Lady,” “Stay,” and “Cry For You” helped the group define the new jack swing subgenre and turned them into heartthrobs. Despite internal problems that saw the group largely inactive during the late 1990s and the 2000s, Jodeci has attempted several comebacks over the last decade. Still, they have a consistent base that loves their music and waits for the tour – will it be possible in 2022 or 2023 to see the Jodeci concert tour across North America?
The last record released by the group was The Past, The Present, The Future, in 2015 and this album took the group back to their R&B style after they had experimented on hip hop music. The album failed to chart impressively but it did present us with the singing abilities of the original members including K-Ci, JoJo, DeVante Swing as well and Mr Dalvin. It also pointed to the fact that there was still some creative juice left in the group as they continued to push through their fifties. Given that musical gross continues to flex and that longing for the classic 90s RnB looks set to remain in vogue, the time seems ripe for Jodeci to plot a real come-back tour sooner rather than later.
The group was last on tour for a few shows in 2014 in a mini-reunion tour by BET for the support of that network’s original movie The Jodeci Project. Although it included shows in big cities such as Los Angeles, Detroit, and Atlanta it was still a fairly localized experience. There is much unmet demand across the country, and even worldwide for Jodeci to give a complete headlining arena tour, potentially with their peers in R&B music from the New Jack Swing era as support acts. Recent large tours by Boyz II Men and Keith Sweat show that it's High time to reminisce about that early 1990s urban music scene. If promoted correctly and since their songs are still played at weddings and parties, a months-long Jodeci tour in 2023 could do relatively well.
They still have questions concerning diseases and other conflicts of interest. For years, K-Ci especially has been rumored to have had vocal issues due to personal issues. The relations between its members have also been volatile and at certain periods strained as evidenced by their split and reunions in 1995, 2005, and 2015. However, in recent years K-Ci, JoJo, DeVante, and Dalvin have united and this created hope that the next phase in their career means they will also come back in full force. Several journalists and people from the industry who met the members have disclosed in confidence that egos have been checked, vocal cords are still functioning provided there is some effort exerted for them to be checked, and there have been talks about the plans for the tour but the business sides of the deals have to be sorted out.
Should the business sides align correctly, then fans can begin looking forward to possible future Jodeci tour dates. The most suitable conditions for successful touring would probably be having several weeks' worth of shows in midsize venues with 1500-5000 seats in the markets where R&B is still popular in Radio and Streaming services. Hence, cities such as Atlanta, Houston, Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Los Angeles would therefore be prime candidates for hosting concerts. Openers could be provided By talented musicians from the contemporary rhythm and blues category or period revival artists. Further, daily advertisements on Urban radio and through streaming playlists would also go a long way in boosting ticket sales. Things like meet-and-greet would also appeal to superfans ready to spend a bit more For special memories.
During their prime, nearly three decades ago, Jodeci used to play songs such as “Lately” and “Come and Talk To Me” which defined their flamboyant style and influenced an entire generation of artists. Today the music still holds up incredibly well, arguably better than many other nineties R&B acts. As young people embrace their love for old-school urban trends in fashion and music, Jodeci could find a cross-generational audience on tour, which is also a cross-racial one. If marketed correctly they have the potential to become one of the most popular old-school touring bands in the next couple of years. Now feels like the last acceptable time to cash in on nostalgia While maintaining the excitement over a several-month-long journey.
New Edition’s acquiescence to elder statesmen touring status over the past decade after navigating their much-hyped mini tour with Guy and Bobby Brown has set a precedent For Jodeci and artists like them. Though some people may have thought that they are not the best artists anymore and most of them could be a bit rusty, New Edition was able to give most of its fans great shows while collecting great box office sales. They have therefore found enough evidence that could only suggest that the belief that Jodeci could be a touring band in 2022 and 2023 is not far from the truth. If one takes the business terms figuratively, the quartet seems prepared to give fans a much-needed chance to perhaps hear hits such as “Feenin” live, as well as other album tracks. Promoters, venue operators, and tour producers would like the opportunity to work with the act.
Much has changed about music the touring scene and the culture that Jodeci popularized nearly three decades ago. But their sex appeal and provocative songs such as ‘My Heart Belongs To U’ still resonate today. Today the members are family men who can, however, still melt the knees of ladies the moment those special voices sing in unison. Besides, they get to benefit from a tour in terms of recording and branding services as well since they shall be reenergized. Likewise, the sales of physical media also seem promising because of the presence of both the urban Contemporary formats and the comeback of cassette tapes. In the end, the fact that Jodeci still has a wealth of musical talent and the rise of nostalgia for the nineties could prove lucrative for the group if they were to go on tour sometime soon. It will also be in their best interest to get back on the road for the music history and loyal fan base that they have. Hopefully, either 2022 or 2023 will bring a full-blown Jodeci concert production to the fans.
