Lynyrd Skynyrd is an American rock band that attained its peak during the 1970s, especially in the Southern rock style of music. Such songs as “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird” helped them become one of the most popular bands of the decade. Sadly, disaster was to befall the band in 1977 when a chartered Convair CV-300 flying crashed leading to the death of three of the band members. If one were to think that this group has been annihilated after the horrific plane crash that they encountered. However, a decade later the band reformed for a tribute tour in honor of the deceased members of the band, and as such, they have been fairly busy where touring is concerned.
Lynyrd Skynyrd started their first tour ten years after their 1987 reunification. This tour honored the previous band members, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and Cassie Gaines who passed away in 1977. Profiting on people's passion for the classics, they stage in amphitheaters and stadiums throughout American cities such as Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York City. A large lot of people came to see the fresh and cleaned-up version to demonstrate that people always loved such deeds. Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts included some of the older tunes such as "Tuesday's Gone," "Simple Man," of course, and "Free Bird."

Lynyrd Skynyrd also continues to perform shows in international territories at a steady pace. They have been touring Europe incessantly and taking their Southern rock to many countries including Germany, Switzerland, England, Netherlands, and Italy among others. Besides their regular operations within the USA, international tours are taken annually. One of their major accomplishments was in 2015 when they entertained troops in Kuwait and Iraq. This special concert was held in Camp Buehring. The current lineup also performs live even though the band now has only one pre-crash member, namely Gary Rossington.
Moreover, contemporary set lists contain songs from all periods of the band’s discography, not just the 1970s. Fans still want such favorites as “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird” played each night. But they’ve included in it later successes such as “God and Guns” and “Still Unbroken” too. This is also the time that the band is also known to perform cover songs if not through the entire show then at least several songs. Gary Rossington, 70 years old, continues to be the spine of the group and the most vivid reference to the band's peak in the 70s. Former drummer and guitarist Rickey Medlocke who was with the band from 1971 to 1972 is another man who connects past and present lineups. The concerts depict life as different ages merging yet the music is unique Lynyrd Skynyrd. Still, the irreplaceable Ronnie Van Zant is more than ably succeeded by little brother Johnny, who took over as lead singer in 1987. The current lineup has been rather constant over the past decade too.
Thus, if wishing to listen to Road House blues once more, know that Lynyrd Skynyrd still performs concerts regularly. Despite all the victories and defeats, the gigs and setbacks, their spirit of ‘rock ‘n roll’ never faded. Watching them now, fans both near and far can still enjoy songs like “Call Me the Breeze,” “Gimme Three Steps,” “What’s Your Name,” “You Got That Right” and of course “Free Bird. ” One can always catch the legends of southern rock music in a city near you as they keep on introducing new generations to their bluesy hard rock sound with the guitar harmonies.
