This is just a few weeks after MGK started his sixth number-one album on the Billboard charts with Mainstream Sellout in March this year. The album has kept on enjoying great success, especially after it emerged as MGK’s best-selling debut week. It was a taste of a new pop punk for the rapper now turned punk rockstar.

The mainstream sell-out single “Emo Girl” with WILLOW was released and quickly climbed to the top of the rock charts and became an anthem of pop punk teenager frustration. The music video that accompanied the song was released on YouTube and quickly went viral, which only solidified MGK’s fan base which consisted of fans of early 2000’s pop punk.

Other collaborations that can be attributed to the Mainstream Sellout include ‘Ay!’ featuring Lil Wayne, ‘Fake Love Don’t Last’ which features Iann Dior, and ‘WW4’ which includes Young Thug also did well. MGK even won the Billboard Music Award for both Top Rock Artist and Top Rock Album in 2022.

Now that punk rock is finally considered mainstream, due in large part to MGK’s presence, fans are eagerly awaiting his live performances. The Mainstream Sellout Tour is his largest undertaking to date both as an artist and as a pop icon.

For the tour, MGK has enlisted the services of Travis Barker on drums, who played with him in Saturday Night Live the previous year. Their enthralling single, Queen’s “I Think I’m Okay” is also likely to feature in the setlists. Opening acts for the tour are rookie rappers Join and Kenny Hoopla, though they are not present in all the shows.

Considering that MGK is known for his mosh pit performances, additional security has already been ordered for every location. This is attributed to his past concert accidents such as falling off the stage and being knocked unconscious during a performance hence making venue staff very alert.

However, fans should prepare for a rowdy setlist of MGK’s punk discography alongside Tickets to My Downfall hits like “Bloody Valentine” and “Concert for Aliens. ” Songs from Hotel Diablo and previous works will also likely be intermingled with the setlist.

MGK said that he envisions having different stage arrangements for each show and assured that “It is going to be a different show each night. ” Some of these rumors include that some special guests and collaborators are expected to perform in selected shows only. Avril Lavigne, Blackbear, and Mod Sun could also be there to perform songs they have recorded with MGK.

The ticket sales responded rapidly to the announcement of the tour; within hours, most of the shows were booking fifty to seventy-five percent of the capacity. This was far higher than the early shows of the previous headlining tours of MGK. Some secondary markets have floor seats selling at $ 500- $1000 while the face value of these tickets stands at $125.

However, because of the number of fans he has been able to garner in a short period, more shows may be scheduled in other cities at a later date. Self-implanting himself as an arena pop punk headliner signifies a great comeback given that just a few years back, MGK was performing in bar venues and clubs.

MGK is set for his biggest year yet in 2023 as he fully embraces his rockstar persona. The Mainstream Sellout Tour will be the culmination of that victory lap in true punk spirit. So hurry and book your tickets before the notorious ticket ‘scals’ get their hands on them!
