Journey Tickets is currently in the middle of a massive tour throughout North America to mark their 50th year as a band. Originally emerging from San Francisco in 1973, Journey became one of the biggest bands of the 70s and 80s with tremendous songs like “Don’t Stop Believin'" and “Faithfully. ” 50 years later, the band is back on the road to entertain fans who have been with the band since day one as well as new fans who have discovered the timeless music of Journey.
Journey now consists of three original members headed by guitarist Neal Schon. Schon started Journey back in 1973 and is the only member of the original group currently active with the band. Along with them on this 50th-anniversary tour are keyboardist Jonathan Cain and bassist Ross Valory, both of whom have cycled around Journey in many roles since the early 1980s. Arnel Pineda, who joined the band when Neal Schon came onto recordings of Pineda playing Journey's songs on YouTube, leads vocals. Pineda last sang for the band fifteen years ago, more than fifteen years apart. Narada Michael Walden, a session drummer as well as a highly praised producer who joined Journey in 2020 after Steve Smith left the band, is on the drums.
Thus, while the current five members of Journey touring arenas and amphitheaters during the band’s 50th anniversary don’t replicate the early 1980s lineup in its composition, Schon and Cain are irreplaceable links to the band with its prime and the peak of hit-making. Valory was also Journey’s original bassist having joined the band in 1973 before he left then rejoined the band later. This grounds an effective continuity while Arnel Pineda on vocals and Narada Michael Walden on drums infuse new life, which makes Journey’s concert classic rock songs sound exciting. However, the current five-member configuration has it where the old guard can see their favorite Journey hits performed live, and a new generation can appreciate the band’s discography of classic rock songs.
That catalogue will come into light during the journey’s 50th anniversary tour which is set for more than sixty dates. Of course, they may include even some songs from the new album, but the fans can hear all the hits of the band such as “Faithfully”, “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)”, “Lights”, “Wheel in the Sky”, “Any Way You Want It”, “Open Arms”, “Who’s Crying Now” and, of course, “Don’t Stop Believin’”. In conclusion, the journey will forever remain.
Although Journey has gone through lineup changes, break up, and reunion in the 50 years of its existence, some things have remained constant such as the guitar work by Neal Schon and keyboard backing up the high-pitched lead vocals by Jonathan Cain. While Steve Perry, with his iconic voice, may not be present, the current voice of Journey, Arnel Pineda, has amazed the fans with his vocal ability and emulation of Perry’s style. The overall result is a revitalized Journey that incorporates a detailed account of the band’s past while incorporating new energy that seems fitting for a band that has a schedule that includes a considerable North American tour.
That tour is also going to move Journey across the entire United States and multiple dates in Canada within a packed spring and summer season. The first leg of Journey’s tour was in March and April, and the band managed to play in many big venues such as Madison Square Garden in New York and the Forum in Los Angeles even sold out. More than twenty other shows continued through late May and into the northern areas of Canada. Journey then quickly resumed in June to keep touring as the headline act of both amphitheaters and arenas across America. Audiences should expect the hit songs infused with positive messages, and solos highlighting Pineda’s powerful voice.
The current Journey tour is a grand celebration that can only happen because of the outstanding career of one of the biggest rock bands in the business. For long-time fans who have been a fan of Journey since the beginning of their fifty-year career, this is a great opportunity to go and hear those songs that they have come to know and love. Meanwhile, younger generations get to experience for themselves why Journey truly deserves the adulation of several generations later on. It all adds up to a spectacular concert experience of what is still a world-class band that penned the soundtrack to the lives of millions for over half a century.
